Research on methods to foster participation in the energy transition has thus far primarily focused on individual households, assuming that energy decisions are made independently within each household. While this approach has yielded significant success, the increasing prominence of Energy Communities and technologies like collective PV systems, district heating, and fast EV chargers necessitates a shift towards collective decision-making models.
Collective decision-making presents unique challenges compared to individual decision-making. It is well-established that the aggregate behavior of a group cannot be accurately predicted by simply summing up individual behaviors, as group dynamics introduce additional complexities. Consequently, studying group behavior and decision-making in the context of energy transition is more intricate, explaining the relative scarcity of literature on this topic.
To advance research in this area, within the framework of the SMARTLIVINGEPC, DECIPHER and IDESIGNRES projects, we invite you to participate in a hybrid workshop on the 18th of December from 10am to 12 am CET. Together, we will explore the most pressing challenges in studying collective decision-making for energy transition.
During the session we will discuss the following topics:
- Which keywords / methodologies do you associate with collective decision making?
- SWOT analysis of approaches to address collective decision making
- Discussion on a joint methodological approach: relevant bibliography, data, models and methods to address the topic.
The workshop will be held as a hybrid event. Online participants will use Mentimetter and Miro boards to discuss their contributions while face to face participants will use post its and blackboards. A joint discussion sharing the results of both online and onsite participants will close the session.
