Deusto University Kickstarts the White Book development

In the framework of the DECIPHER Project, Deusto University has embarked on the development of a White Book aimed at integrating innovative frameworks into university curricula. This initiative seeks to guide on how to equip future decision-makers with the transversal skills and knowledge required to address the complexities of the modern world and to generate better environmental policies.

The White Book focuses on fostering competencies in new economic methods for decision-making, emphasizing biodiversity conservation, environmental sustainability, and ethical impact assessments. This effort aligns with the broader mission of preparing students to tackle global challenges with a nuanced, multidisciplinary approach.

The co-creation process began with a thorough literature review on two critical areas: sustainability and the skillsets required by policymakers,  followed by a cross-referencing of competencies and an initial mapping of them.

On November 29th and December 2nd, 2024, Deusto University has conducted the first three pilot sessions involving approximately 120 first-year students from the fields of law and international relations. These sessions tested policy-making skills through engaging role-play activities, simulating decision-making scenarios in municipal public policies. Students navigated challenges using sustainability criteria and co-responsibility, embodying the roles of future policymakers.

These interactive sessions provided valuable insights into the application of theoretical concepts, while also helping refine the competencies outlined in the White Book.

Stay tuned for updates as the DECIPHER Project continues its transformative journey to empower the next generation of leaders.
